On your iPhone, you manage your network settings.
Turn On / Off Airplane Mode
Airplane mode turns off wireless connections. This allows app and menu use but prevents voice or Internet use.
- From any screen, access the Control Center:
- iPhone X or newer: Swipe down from the upper-right corner of the screen.
- iPhone 8 and earlier: Slide your finger up from the bottom of the screen. If a small arrow appears, slide your finger up again.
- Tap the Airplane Mode
Turn On / Off Data Roaming
- From any Home screen, tap Settings > Cellular or Cellular Data.
- Tap Cellular Data Options.
- Drag the Data Roaming slider to OFF
Turn On / Off Mobile Data
- From the main menu, tap Settings > Cellular or Cellular Data.
- Tap Cellular Data to turn on or off
Turn On / Off 5G Connectivity
This section only applies to Apple iPhones 12 and newer. While 5G offers faster download/upload speeds it currently requires increase power usage. Turning off 5G can reduce power usage and make the battery last longer between charges.
5G On (connect to 5G all the time)
- From the home screen, tap Settings app
- Tap Cellular
- Tap Cellular Data Options
- Tap Voice & Data
- Tap 5G On
5G Auto (only use 5G when it will not reduce battery life. Switches to LTE when 5G is draining battery at a quicker rate)

LTE Only (use LTE only)
- From the home screen, tap Settings app
