If you lost your iPhone or think it might be stolen, you can use iCloud via a web browser to help find the missing device and/or protect your information.
If you do not have access to iCloud via a web browser, refer to How do I find my iPhone using the Find My app?
Set up iCloud - Find My
- To find your devices in iCloud, navigate to www.icloud.com/find
- Log in using your iCloud account.
NOTE: An Apple ID and iCloud account must be created to use the Find My app. The Find My app must be enabled on the missing/stolen device. Each device must be set up with the same iCloud account in order to see all devices in iCloud.
Locate Device
See locations of online iOS devices on a map.
- Navigate to www.icloud.com/find
- Enter the Apple ID and password, then click Sign In.
- Click All Devices (top of screen).
- Select the device you would like to locate.
- If the device is online; The location of the device displays on the map.
If the device is not online: You will see status under the device name. Check the Notify me when found box to receive a notification once it’s located.
Play Sound
If a missing iOS device is nearby & online, you can play a sound on it to assist with finding it.
- Navigate to www.icloud.com/find
- Enter the Apple ID and password, then click Sign In.
- Click All Devices (top of the screen).
- Click the missing device.
- Click Play Sound. A sound will play on the missing iOS device if it is online and connected to internet.
Lost Mode
Securely lock an online iOS device and display a custom message along with your contact number. The finder of the device will see the custom message and be able to call the contact number.
- Navigate to www.icloud.com/find
- Enter the Apple ID and password, then click Sign In.
- Click All Devices (top of the screen).
- Click the missing device.
- Click Lost Mode.
- Follow the onscreen instructions, keeping the following in mind:
- Passcode: If your iPhone doesn’t have a passcode, you’re asked to create one now. This passcode is distinct from your password and is only used when you mark your device as lost.
- Contact Information: If you’re asked to enter a mobile number, enter a number where you can be reached. If you’re asked to enter a message, you may want to indicate that the device is lost or how to contact you. The number and message appear on the device’s lock screen.
- Tap Activate.
- When you find your lost device, do either of the following to turn off Lost Mode:
- Enter your passcode
- In Find My iPhone, tap the device, tap Pending or Activated under Mark as Lost, tap Turn Off Mark as Lost, then tap Turn off.
Erase iPhone
If the online iOS device is lost or stolen, it can be remotely erased, removing the personal info (e.g., contacts, email, pictures, etc.) and settings to prevent anyone from seeing or using the info.
- Navigate to www.icloud.com/find
- Enter the Apple ID and password, then click Sign In.
- Click All Devices (top of the screen).
- Click the missing device.
- Click Erase iPhone.
- Review the warning, then click Erase iPhone.
- Enter the Apple ID and password, then click Erase.
- Note: All personal info and settings are erased from the missing iOS device and cannot be restored.
Remove iPhone
If an iOS device is no longer being used, it can be removed from the Find My iPhone devices list.
- Navigate to www.icloud.com/find
- Enter the Apple ID and password, then click Sign In.
- Click All Devices (top of the screen).
- Click the device to be removed.
- Erase the device. (see above for details)
- Click All Devices again.
- Select the device to be removed
- Click Remove from Account to confirm.
- All your content is erased, Activation Lock is turned off, and someone else can now activate the device.
