"eSIM" is short for "embedded SIM," referring to a chip permanently stored in your device, which mobile service providers use to identify your device. Your SIM assigns a mobile number to your individual mobile device. eSIMs are what newer devices use instead of physical SIM cards, which have to be taken out and swapped between devices to transfer your number.
