You can bring your number from another carrier. You'll need your old carrier's account number and transfer PIN. Keep your old service active until the transfer is done.
Before you start
- Turn off any number lock on your old account. Carriers call it different things, like Number Lock, Port Out Blocker, SIM Protect, or Port Lock. A lock that is still on is a common reason a transfer fails.
- Get your transfer PIN from your old carrier shortly before you start. Transfer PINs expire. For example, AT&T PINs last 4 days and Verizon PINs last 7 days.
- Have these ready: your account number, transfer PIN, and your ZIP code. The last 4 digits of the account holder's Social Security number are optional. See What you need to transfer your number.
- Find steps for your carrier in Switching from a prepaid carrier: find your account number and transfer PIN.
New line: transfer your number
1. Choose Keep my number at checkout.
2. We'll email you when you can start your transfer. You can do it before your SIM arrives.
3. Sign in to MyMobile and tap Activate service. You fill out the transfer form in MyMobile.
4. Select your number and tap Continue.
5. Pick the carrier you're leaving. Read the steps for that carrier. This works for eSIM and physical SIM.
6. Enter your account number, PIN, and ZIP code. The last 4 digits of your SSN are optional. Then tap Start Transfer.

If something goes wrong
- When does my number move? Your number transfers when you activate your SIM. Your old service keeps working until then. You may get a temporary number for a few minutes while the transfer finishes. See Start your number transfer before your SIM arrives.
- Got an email or text about wrong information? Fix it and send it again. See Fix and resubmit a number transfer request.
- No update 24 hours after 'Request submitted'? Contact your old carrier.
- Don't cancel your old service until the transfer is done, or you could lose your number.
